Privacy policy

Who we are

Tahoe is a knowledge discovery service operated by ThinkRoman Ventures LLC, Texas, USA. This policy covers the Tahoe website and our mobile app experiences. Contact admin@thinkroman.com about privacy or your information.

What Tahoe collects and why

  • Account details: your email address, name if supplied, verification status, account settings, and an optional salted password hash. These support sign-in, account security, and saving across devices.
  • Your learning: questions, AI answers, source links, saved cards, reading progress, conversations, uploaded documents, notes, and their searchable representations. These let you explore and retrieve your knowledge.
  • Recommendation activity: cards shown and opened, saves, and More/Less feedback. We use broad subject scores to personalize your seven discoveries. We do not use these scores to infer your health, religion, politics, or other sensitive personal traits.
  • Essential identifiers: an anonymous browser identifier, sign-in cookies, and short-lived security records. Hosting providers may process IP addresses, browser/device information, and operational logs to deliver and protect the service.
  • Support and reports: messages you send us and content you choose to flag for review.

Please avoid putting sensitive personal information or other people’s private information into questions or uploads. Tahoe does not need access to your contacts, precise location, camera, or microphone for its current discovery features.

AI services and other providers

When you ask Tahoe a question, your question and limited recent learning context may be sent to OpenAI to research and generate an answer. Web search queries may be processed by search providers through that service. Uploaded text and relevant extracts may be sent to OpenAI for embeddings, summaries, or conversations. AI answers can be inaccurate.

We use MongoDB Atlas for application storage and Resend for transactional sign-in email. The hosting provider processes requests needed to run Tahoe. If natural narration is enabled, the text to be spoken is sent to Google Cloud Text-to-Speech. If you choose your own AI provider or a compatible endpoint, the request content is sent to that selected provider. API keys entered in AI settings are held in the current browser session and transmitted to Tahoe’s server to fulfill those requests; they are not intentionally stored in Tahoe’s database.

Providers have their own retention and security practices. OpenAI requests use the available option to disable response storage; this is not a promise of zero provider logging or retention. Processing may take place outside your state or country. See the privacy notices for OpenAI, MongoDB, Resend, and Google.

Cookies and personalization

You can browse without an account. An essential browser cookie can remember an anonymous identity for up to 180 days. Sign-in sessions last up to 90 days. Clearing browser data may make guest history inaccessible. When you verify your email, you can choose whether to transfer discoveries and recommendation activity from that guest visit into your account. Reset interests clears recommendation feedback; it does not delete saved discoveries.

The current app does not include advertising trackers or sell personal information. Essential storage supports sign-in, safety, and your learning experience.

How long information stays

  • Unsaved question/answer history, recommendation activity, and deck snapshots expire after about 90 days. Database cleanup may run shortly after expiry.
  • Saved discoveries, account information, uploaded knowledge, and conversations stay until you delete them or your account.
  • Magic links expire after 15 minutes and work once. Continuation records expire after 15 minutes. Short-lived rate-limit records expire automatically after their security window.
  • Support correspondence and operational records may remain where needed to handle an issue, protect the service, or meet legal obligations. Provider backups may retain copies until their backup retention periods end; these are not used for active personalization.

Your choices and deletion

Use Account to manage your account. You can delete your account and its associated Tahoe data, clear guest discoveries from this browser, or contact us to request access, correction, export, or deletion. We may ask you to verify control of the account before acting. Deleting your account removes its profile, credentials, saved discoveries, recommendation records, uploads, and conversations from the active application database. It does not remove messages already delivered to your email inbox.

If you cannot sign in, email admin@thinkroman.com from the account’s email address. We will verify the request and explain any data we must retain and why. This web route is available without installing the app.

Security, children, and changes

We use HTTPS in production, account-based access controls, single-use sign-in links, password hashing, and rate limits. No system can guarantee absolute security. Tahoe is a general-interest service and is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us. We will update this page when our practices change and provide additional notice when appropriate.
